Review by Martin Gonzalez for Photojournalism, Sixth Edition: The Professionals’ Approach
Rating:
I have been studying photojournalism for about two years now and I have never seen a book near the quality and content of this book. If you are just looking to get into the field or have been in the field for years, get this book. It opens your mind as to what photojournalism, the content, what to look for, where to look, and so much more.

The updated version of this book is worth the price if you do not have the previous version. Not worth the price otherwise. The DVD has added a Sports Illustrated section but the rest is repeats of prior version. The addition of video and sound capture was needed but I found it didn’t apply to most jobs in the business. Most newspapers adding video and sound to the job description are not providing the equipment he suggests you need. Some of the sections have new pictures and some new paragraphs but for the most part it’s just a rehash of the old edition.

I have Professor Kobre’s Lightscoop and I LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT. My pictures really do look professional now!
Anyway, I decided to get Professor Kobre’s book even though there’s no way I’m ever going to be a professional photojournalist. Yes, it’s aimed at people who want to be professionals. BUT this book is just loaded with information, including strategies on taking candid pictures… which I do all the time (or try to) with my family and friends. Plus, the pictures in this book are amazing even if you don’t read it. But the text is easy to read, too! Professor Kobre dissects and explains technical information so that even people like me can understand.
Still don’t want to be a real photojournalist but that doesn’t mean I can’t learn from professionals! Great book great value for the price!

This book was required for a class in Photojournalism. Excellent photos and well written. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in Photojournalism. Very useful and eye opening.

I ordered this book as part of an optional text for a journalism class. Several days later I received an email saying my order was canceled, with no explanation. I searched for a link to message the seller but could not find (hence my writing here).
After reading the reviews I am almost glad I didn’t get it. I am a third year photojournalism student with multiple internships completed, and it seems as though this book is for beginners.
I’ll be happy to take down a negative review once I receive an explanation.
